KC Petfood was started as McDonald Coal Company in 1921, by John McDonald. The company struggled in the early depression era due to extended credit to needy customers for heating. The company changed their focus to meeting the needs of local dairies and their feed requirements, that lead to being a full time feed dealer in the 40's and 50's. At that time they developed a salvage grain business from all the grain spilled by railroad companies on the tracks. Cleaning the grain and then reselling it to the local gain companies. At that time they made a ration style dry dog food, called MCDONALD'S BIG DOG FOOD, they sold it for 40 years. John's son John J. McDonald ran the company till Feb. 21st 1981, at which time Bob and Nancy Collier bought the company, made it McDonald Grain Inc. They used the trade name Old McDonald's Feed and Grain, started five other stores in the area, later to become Old McDonald's Pet Food and Supply. Since that time the stores found themselves in a changing market. The company decided to close all the stores except the original store at 1725 SW BLVD, KC KS. At that time we converted our existing customers to home delivery. Since 1994 we have made 50,000 home delivery’s, created a web site, and reopened the original store for retail hours. Also we have now opened a KC Lawnmower Repair at the same location, for the last 10 years, doing warranty repairs for Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, and some Menards stores, along with anyone needing repairs on small engines.. We have manufactured floor sweep compounds for the last 40 Years, notably Absorb-A-Trac, that have been distributed by our company and Bunzl and other major distributors. Hence K C Petfood, K C Lawnmower Repair, Absorb-A-Trac. Our current company Mcdonald Grain Inc. is owner of all.
